Recent entries into India's SUV-coupe market are the Citroen Basalt and Tata Curvv, each of which offers special advantages. Tata Motors has priced the SUV coupe near to Rs 10 lakh, while the Basalt is priced reasonably at Rs 7.99 lakh, appealing to people looking for flair and utility on a budget.

Customers seeking cutting-edge technology and luxurious features may find the Curvv appealing. This is an in-depth comparison of the two cars, taking into account their features, cost, design, and engine options. It also includes commentary from user reviews and manufacturer remarks.

Engine and Performance: A Detailed Examination of Drivetrains

The Citroen Basalt has two engine options under its hood, both of which are from the C3 Aircross. The first is a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, producing 110 PS and up to 205 Nm of torque. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 82 horsepower and 115 torque is the second choice; it is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Basalt's manual turbo-petrol model achieves 19.5 km/l, while the normally aspirated petrol engine achieves 18 km/l.

The Tata Curvv, on the other hand, comes with three engine options, each of which gives a unique driving experience. With 123 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque, the new 1.2-litre TGDI turbocharged petrol engine in the Curvv has a better performance profile than the Basalt. A 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 116 horsepower and 260 Nm, while a 1.2-litre turbo engine generates 118 horsepower and 170 Nm. These engines come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DCT), which is a first for a diesel engine in this class, or a six-speed manual transmission. With its wide range of engine options, the Curvv is positioned as a more capable and adaptable car than the Basalt.

Price

The Citroen Basalt is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom, all of India) in its initial market offering. There are three primary versions of it: You, Plus, and Max. Each has a distinct engine setup and set of features.

On the other hand, the standard Smart model of the Tata Curvv, which comes with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a six-speed manual transmission, starts at about Rs 10 lakh. The Curvv's more expensive price point is justified by its more sophisticated features, upscale design cues, and a larger selection of engine choices.

Structure and Elements

The Citroen Basalt is a car with a unique and useful design that takes inspiration from the C3 Aircross SUV. Its daytime running lights (DRLs), tail lights, and headlights are LEDs, which improve its visibility on the road. The Basalt's interior has wireless phone charging, a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver's display, and automatic air conditioning. It does, however, lack several high-end options, including cruise control and a sunroof. This has a 5-seater arrangement that is comparable to its C3 Aircross sibling and is intended to comfortably seat a family of adults.

The Tata Curvv, in contrast, has a more sophisticated and contemporary design. Tata\'s new ATLAS platform is shared by Curvv's EV and ICE variants, creating a single design language. The Curvv's front end is dominated by a large LED DRL strip above the grille. LEDs are used for all of the lighting components, including the indicators. Additional design features, including air vents, chrome highlights, front sensors, and cameras, are also included in the ICE version of the Curvv.

The dual-tone burgundy and black interior of the Curvv with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, a wireless phone charging pad, a 12.3-inch touchscreen entertainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more are important interior amenities. In comparison to the Basalt, the Curvv has additional features, including a 360-degree camera system, a motorized tailgate with gesture controls, and ventilated front seats.

Which SUV-Coupe Offers Better Safety and Practicality?

An important factor in both models is safety. In addition to electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and seatbelt reminders for every passenger, the Citroen Basalt is equipped with six airbags as standard. It does not, however, include several cutting-edge safety measures that are becoming standard on other cars.

With features like a 360-degree camera system, six airbags, electronic stability control, all-wheel disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electronic parking brake with auto hold, the Tata Curvv's Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) elevate safety to a new level. When compared to the Basalt, the Curvv offers more safety and driver assistance because of these features and its sturdy construction.
