The Ultimate Commuter 2024 Honda CB125R Review

Every rider wants three essentials from their first motorcycle when starting a two-wheeled career: an easy-to-ride chassis, compelling real-world engine performance, and super-agile handling. However, if you add a variety of high-end features and wrap those basics in a unique, elegant style, the end product may be an even more unique vehicle to start a life on two wheels.

 

In 2017, Honda debuted the brand-new CB125R for novice riders seeking this type of package. The CB125R, the smallest model in Honda's streamlined, basic "Neo Sports Café family, was introduced alongside the CB300R and the flagship CB1000R. It was a daring new, high-end addition to the lineup of Honda's entry-level vehicles.

 

The CB125R satisfies the latest EURO5+ emissions standards for 24YM, and its allure is further enhanced by the inclusion of a brand-new 5-inch full-colour TFT display, switchgear, and four new colours.  

Model Overview

Among its counterparts, the CB125R stands out for its eye-catching design, which distinguishes it from the crowded field.

 

The EURO5+ DOHC 4V engine produces a robust 11.0kW of power and 11.6Nm of torque, making it lively and enjoyable to rev. Additionally, 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) USD forks provide little bikes with the suspension of big bikes. Equally amazing is the braking system, which uses a radial-mount, four-piston calliper with ABS controlled by an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to work a 296mm floating front disc. New switchgear and a 5-inch full-colour display enhance the attractiveness of the 24YM.

Engine

The CB125R\'s unique 125cc, DOHC 4V engine design, which is compatible with EURO5+, generates 11.0kW at 10,000 rpm and 11.6Nm at 8,000 rpm. With a top speed of 105 km/h, 11.3 seconds are needed to travel 0-200m. There are six gears in the gearbox.

 

The exhaust system of the 24YM CB125R has a new catalyser without sacrificing performance.

 

The compression ratio is 11.3:1, and the bore and stroke measurements are 57.3 x 48.4 mm. Clean fuel injection from PGM-FI passes through the resonator, air cleaner connecting tube, and intake duct. A dual-chamber muffler allows the exhaust to escape after being underslung.

Chassis

With a rake and trail set at 24.2°/90.2mm, the frame can provide agile handling with stability and feedback thanks to the pressed steel swingarm pivot plates and swingarm, which underpin the chassis' fundamental strength.

 

The low, 130 kg wet weight and small, 1345mm wheelbase also contribute to the excellent feel for front-end grip and effortless steering that is provided by a 51.5% front/48.5% rear weight bias. The 2.3-meter turning radius and fat bar-style handlebars ensure comfortable manoeuvring in congested metropolitan traffic. The seat is 816 mm high.

Equipment

Complete LED illumination, including indicators, promotes mass centralization and gives an additional sense of luxury. The taillight stays small and fashionable, while the headlamp has a twin-bar light signature, with the top bar for the low beam and the lower bar for the high beam.

 

Underneath an angular lid, the 10.1L gasoline tank conceals an aircraft-style filling cap. The CB125R can go more than 460 km on full gasoline with a fuel efficiency of 45.5 km/l (WMTC mode).

 

The 24YM CB125R has negative-coloured Honda Wing emblems on the tank and colour-matched large CB125R badges on the radiator shrouds. The lone exception is the Matt Cynos Gray Metallic colour scheme, which is exclusive to the lineup and has the Honda Wing logo on the tank and the gold CB125R on the shrouds.
