The Indian market\'s two-wheeler companies have released their August 2024 sales data. A few brands have seen a drop in sales, despite the majority reporting increases. This is a summary of the leading two-wheeler brands in the Indian market's monthly sales numbers.

Highlights:

-TVS's overall revenues increased by 13% in a single year.

-RE had a 5% year-over-year decline in domestic sales.

- Honda's two-wheeler sales increased 13% year over year.

Here are the top 5 best-selling two-wheeler brands:

1. Tata Motor Company

In August 2024, TVS Motor Company sold 3,91,588 units overall, a 13% increase in sales year over year (y-o-y) over the 3,45,848 units sold in August 2023. Additionally, domestic two-wheeler sales increased by 13% to 2,89,073 units sold. Motorcycles and scooters accounted for 1,70,486 and 1,63,629 units, respectively, in the two-wheeler category, indicating a 14% total gain. Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 4% year over year to 24,779 units. A 19% rise in two-wheeler exports resulted in 89,768 units shipped during the month.

2. Royal Enfield

Sales of Royal Enfield bikes decreased to 73,630 in August 2024 from 77,583 in the same month the previous year. 65,624 units were sold domestically during this period last year, a 5% decrease from 69,393 units during the same period the previous year. Additionally, exports decreased slightly—8,006 bikes were sent, down 2% from 8,190 in August 2023. Year-to-date (YTD) sales data for 2024 indicates a 3% decrease in overall sales, with 3,67,802 units sold thus far.

3. Hero MotorCorp

Hero MotoCorp shipped 5,12,360 motorcycles in August 2024, of which 4,92,263 were sold domestically. Due to supply constraints, the firm recorded a small decline in revenues, which it hopes to improve in September. In all, Hero MotoCorp saw a 38% increase in dispatch volumes month over month. The firm sold 24,17,790 units during the April–August period of FY25, an increase of 8% over the same period in FY24. Furthermore, VIDA, the electric vehicle division of Hero MotoCorp, reported its first-ever monthly sales of more than 6,000 units. 

4. Suzuki Motorcycle India

With 1,04,800 units sold in August 2024, Suzuki Motorcycle India recorded overall sales, a slight year-over-year increase of 1% from 1,03,336 units sold in August 2023. Domestic sales increased by 5% to 87,480 units in the same month as last year, from 83,045 units sold. But from 20,291 units exported in August 2023 to 17,320 units delivered in August 2024, shipments fell by 15%.

5. Bajaj Auto

In August 2024, Bajaj Auto reported total sales of 3,97,804 units, of which 2,53,827 were contributed by domestic two-wheeler sales, indicating a 24% year-over-year increase. In comparison to the same time in 2023, exports of two-wheelers increased by 5% to 1,43,977 units. Two-wheeler sales so far this year have increased by 10%, totalling 15,83,636 units, including exports.
