TVS Motor Company, one of the world’s leading two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturers, has officially teased its first maxi-style electric scooter, the TVS M1-S. Interestingly, the teaser appeared on the company’s Indonesian website rather than its Indian platform, hinting at a likely debut in Indonesia first, followed by launches in other global markets — including India.
This new model marks TVS’ third major EV after the iQube (practical family scooter) and TVS X (sporty performance scooter). The M1-S is expected to fill the gap between these two, offering a blend of style, comfort, and performance.
From ION Mobility to TVS M1-S
If the M1-S looks familiar, that’s because it’s essentially a rebadged version of the ION M1-S from Singapore-based EV startup ION Mobility. TVS had been a strategic investor in ION Mobility before acquiring its key assets, intellectual property, and core team for USD 1.75 million earlier this year.
As part of this acquisition, James Chan, the founder and CEO of ION Mobility, joined TVS as Senior Vice President, taking charge of ASEAN operations and spearheading the M1-S project under TVS’ ‘Reimagine 2030’ vision.
